Birth Family DNA Search Service for Foreign Korean Adoptees

Starting from Jan 01, 2020, the government of the Republic of Korea is providing foreign Korean adoptees who could not find their birth parent information with a Birth Family DNA Search service.


Adoptees who wish to find his/her birth family should follow the following process.


① Make a petition for Birth Family Search directly to NCRC(National Center for the Rights of the Child) (familysearch@ncrc.or.kr, +82-2-6943-2654~6, 2638), and ② if there is no matching birth family information found from NCRC, ③ Applicants could arrange an appointment to get a DNA Sample from 34 Korean Missions abroad: Korean Consulate Generals and Embassies in your area of residence.(For detailed information, please refer to attached file)


 

The Collected DNA sample will be shipped from the Korean Missions abroad to National Police Agency(NPA) in Korea by diplomatic pouch, and be examined. If there is a matching DNA, after final verification, the family reunion might be arranged with the support of NCRC.
