1.    The Curse of 3 Year Hill

There is a hill name 3 Year Hill in Korea and it is believed that if you fall when you are on this hill you’ll only live for three years. The story start with this myth. An old man went to the town for selling fabrics. The man was walking through the 3 Year Hill on his way back. He took a breathe and gazed the forests as he was resting. After his rest he noticed that the sun was already setting and hurried on his was to home. On the way he tripped and fell down. He turned blue and was shocked. He got up and went home hurriedly . As he arrived home he hooded his wife’s hand and cried. He told his wife what happened and that he’ll only live for 3years from now on. From then on the old man was always sick and covered in blanket. Days passed but he didn’t seem to recover even with the medicines. One day the neighbour’s child came announcing, ‘I can cure your illness!’ The old man & woman shocked asked her how?  She replied fall one more time on the hill. If you fall one time you’ll live for 3 years, of two times 6 years,  if 3 times 9 years and 4 times 12 years. You can live as much as you want by falling. The old man immediately went and fell down multiple times. After he fell, he heard a song about living longer. He became happy and even rolled down the hill. He became bright and regained his state.

( The voice in the song he heard was of the neighbour’s child)

2.   Bari – Degi (바리데기)

Bari-Degi translates to the Abandoned Child. It is the story about the 7th princess of a kingdom who was abandoned by her own parents because of their desperation of wanting a son. She was kindly adopted by an old couple who loved her and raised her well. However, she came across the truth of her birth parents when she was 15 Years Old. When she met them she came to know that they have been severely ill, which was the heaven’s punishment for abandoning their own daughter. Instead of being angry at what they did to her, she decided to do a journey to Seocheon (Afterlife) and come up with a cure for her parents. She began her long journey disguised as a boy. On the way she faced many obstacles and finally reached Seocheon. The guardian of water life which was the only care for her parents said, ‘ I’ll let you in only of you marry me!’ The princess obliged to take the cure for her parents, accepted the Guardian of water life’s words and married him. She later on gave birth to 3 son. After some years, the family returned to Bari’s kingdom. When they arrived, Bari came to know that her parents had died and were headed for the burial of their bodies. She was declared from the new but regained her herself quickly.
