Embassy of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Singapore

H.E. Hong Jin-wook, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, presented his credentials to President Tharman Shanmugaratnam at the Istana on 9 January (Tuesday), and has officially begun his activities as Ambassador.

The Presentation of Credential ceremony was preceded by the inspection of the guard of honour and the signing of the guest book, and was followed by a commemorative photo-taking session and a dialogue with the President.

The Presentation of Credentials ceremony took place less than a week after Ambassador Hong arrived in Singapore to assume his position on 4 January (Thursday), allowing Ambassador Hong to begin his ambassadorial activities early.

During their dialogue, President Tharman expressed his strong interest in Korea-Singapore relations and affirmed that the Singaporean government will actively support Ambassador Hong’s activities.

Ambassador Hong mentioned that he will spare no effort to strengthen bilateral relations, including high-level exchanges and substantive cooperation between the two countries, ahead of the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and Singapore next year.

During their conversation, President Tharman expressed his interest and appreciation for the hanbok worn by Ambassador Hong and his wife, and Ambassador Hong also took the opportunity to introduce Korea’s unique traditional costume to the President.
