Embassy of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Singapore

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Singapore will be hosting the 2nd Korean Essay Writing Contest. We look forward to the participation of many people who are interested in Korean.

1. Eligibility and application process

1) Eligible Participants:  Singapore residents with an interest in the Korean language (excludes native Korean language speakers)

2) How to Participate: Send in the application form by email to the contest coordinator at researcher23@mofa.go.kr by 16 September(Thursday), 11:59pm.
 -  Please name the file name as :[Essay-subject no.]Name

2. Korean Essay Writing Contest Schedule

​

1) Preliminary Schedule: 18 Sept(Sat), 10.00am-01.00pm, Online
- This event will be held remotely . Topic of the essay will be released on the Embassy website at 10am on 18 September.
- Hand-write the essay using the square manuscript paper provided. Scan the completed essay as one PDF format and e-mail.

 *  Please name the file name as :[Essay-subject no.]name
 e.g. If you choose to write essay on topic 1, name the file as : [Essay-1]Hong Gildong
 * Note: You can scan to PDF file via smartphone using Adobe Scan app or CamScanner app.
- Eight finalists will be contacted to particpate in the finals. Release of preliminaries results will be on 22 Sept (Wed) afternoon.

2) Finals schedule:  (Group 1)1.00pm-3.00pm, (Group 2)3.30pm-5.30pm (tentatively) at the Embassy
 - The final round will be held at the Embassy on 27 September 2021 (Monday)(tentative date) and will be divided into two groups in adherence with Covid-19 Safe Distancing Measures.
 - 3 final winners will be notified by email on 1 October(Friday) afternoon individually.

3) Awards Ceremony: 7 October 2021 (Thursday), 11:00-11:30am (tentatively) at the Embassy
- Awards Ceremony for the top 3 winners will be held on 7 October at the Embassy.

3. Prizes 

​

1) First 50 sign-ups for applications (according to order of applications received) will be entitled to a Korean lunchbox (dosirak) delivered to their provided address.

​

2) Top 3 winners will receive a Certification of Award and the following prizes:
- 1st Place: Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+
- 2nd Place: Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic Bluetooth
- 3rd Place: Harman Kardon Onyx Studio 6 Wireless Bluetooth Speaker

4. Other information

​

1) Please submit your own writing. Plagiarized work or proxy writing will be disqualified and participants will be banned from participating in the future Embassy-hosted writing contests.
