F-4 Overseas Korean Visa (재외동포비자)



1. General Information
     F-4 Overseas Korean visa is a 5-year multiple entry visa with sojourn period of 2 years.

    ○ We no longer issue physical visa stickers. You may download the visa grant notice online upon approval (read more here)

    ○ The visa holder must apply for a Resident Card(거소증) at the local immigration office in Korea within 90 days of his entry.

    ○ F-4 visa holder is not allowed to get a job in the field of simple labour service or activities against virtuous public customs.


2. Who is not eligible to apply
    ○ A Korean male who formally renounced Korean nationality after May 1st, 2018 without performing Korean military service. He will not be able to obtain F-4 visa until the year he turns 41 years old.

    ○ A Korean male who became a naturalized citizen of another country after May 1st, 2018 without performing Korean military service. He will not be able to obtain F-4 visa until the year he turns 41 years old.

    ○ A person who has violated the Korean Immigration Law in the past 3 years and charged with fines ₩7,000,000 altogether.

    ○ A person who has been sentenced to jail in the past 5 years.


3. Who is eligible to apply



 A person who used to be Korean national but has since acquired foreign nationality

 ※ Passport will be kept at the Embassy during the processing of your application.

 - family census registry (제적등본) (if renunciation completed before 01 Jan 2008)

 - basic certificate (기본증명서) (if renunciation completed on/after 01 Jan 2008)

 Certificate of Clearance issued by Singapore Police Force (SPF) if the applicant has resided in Singapore for 1 year and above (issued within recent 6 months)

 ※ Please print out this page and submit to SPF to prove the necessity of COC for visa application.

 Criminal records certificate in home country (applicable to non-Singaporeans)

 ※ apostilled or notarized by the Korean Embassy in the issuing country

 ※ issued within recent 6 months

① Applicant is 60 years old or more, ② Children under 13 years of age, ③ Independence patriots and family of the deceased, ④ Special contributor

 Criminal record in country/countries where the applicant has resided for 1 year and above in the recent 5 years (applicable to Singaporeans and non-Singaporeans)

 A Korean male who did not complete Korean military service and was 18 years old and above when he became a foreign citizen before May 1st, 2018.

 ▷ Document(s) to prove that one or both parent(s) is/are foreign citizen or has permanent residency in foreign country.

 A Korean male who completed Korean military service

 ▷ Copy of the certificate of military service completion or military service waiver issued by Military Manpower





 A person whose parent or grandparent used to be Korean national but has acquired foreign nationality

 Certificate of proficiency in Korean (provide if available)

 ① TOPIK first grade or more

 ② Sejong Hakdang elementary level 1B or more


 Who may be exempted:

 ① Applicant had Korean nationality previously, ② Applicant is 60 years of age or more, ③ Children under 13 years of age, ④ Applicant has been lived in Korea with F-4 visa


 ※︎ If you do not fall under the exempted category and wish to apply for F-4 visa without proving Korean proficiency, you may do so. However, the period of stay granted would be 1 year instead of 2 years if a visa can be issued.
