The People's Union Our Ukraine party has demanded that Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko be dismissed due to an incident involving him at Frankfurt Airport.

The party's political council passed a respective statement at a meeting on Saturday in Kyiv, the party's press service reported.

The press service said that the minister's behavior had evoked an extremely negative reaction in Ukraine and Europe.

"The Ukrainian interior minister's actions have done serious damage to Ukraine's international image and discredited the Ukrainian government," reads the statement.

"The Our Ukraine hopes that the behavior of one minister will not harm Ukrainian-German relations, and at the same time calls on all of the country's top-ranking officials to control their own deeds and actions, caring for the international reputation of Ukraine and respect for the citizens of their own state," reads the statement.

The party's political council obliged Our Ukraine members in the Ukrainian parliament to support Lutsenko's statement of resignation.
