1. Application Method and required documents
* "Identification cards" mean passports, resident registration cards, and driver's licenses. (Expired ID cards are not valid)
* Certificates can be applied for in a single application form.
* Individuals should prepare a prepaid return envelope for mail service. The Consulate does not prepare envelopes and stamps for mail service.
A. In-Person Visit (Appointment required: https://www.g4k.go.kr/en/main.do )
o Application form for certificates
o Original and copy of the applicant's ID card
- If the name has been changed due to the acquisition of citizenship, etc., additional copies of the name change certificate have to be submitted (e.g., Hong Gil-dong → James Hong)
o Fee: $1 per certificate (Cash or Money Order, Pay to: Korean Consulate General)
B. Mail
o Application form for certificates
o Copy of the applicant's ID card
- If the name has been changed due to the acquisition of citizenship, etc., additional copies of the name change certificate have to be submitted (e.g., Hong Gil-dong → James Hong)
Copy of identification cards should contain the necessary information and be clearly visible.
The application process can be rejected if the documents are insufficient.
o Fee: $1 per each certificate (Cash or Money Order only, Pay to: Korean Consulate General)
o Return envelope
- Prepaid return envelope with the recipient's name and address should be provided in advance
- Return envelopes with tracking numbers, such as Express, Priority, UPS, and FedEx, are recommended
2. Processing time
ㅇ 3 to 5 business days (process might be delayed due to various reasons such as missing documents)

- A prepaid return envelope with the recipient's name and address should be provided in advance
- Return envelopes with tracking numbers, such as Express, Priority, UPS, and FedEx, are recommended
