* Before you visit, please make an appointment online(https://www.g4k.go.kr/en/main.do)

 - How to make an appointment?

 1. Visit 365 Overseas Korean Portal (https://www.g4k.go.kr/en/main.do) and click "Reservation to Diplomatic Mission"

 2. Click "Make a Reservation" 

 3. Select a Diplomatic Mission

  North America - UNITED STATES - [UNITED STATES] Consulate General of the Republic of Korea

 4. Select 여권/해외이주신고 - 여권 접수 

 5. Select the Date and Time

 6. Check Reservation Details and Click "Request"

 7. Print out Reservation Receipt


* Processing Time: 4-5 weeks

If you want to expedite the process, Pay extra for DHL service: https://kr-epassport.dhl.com/passport

(DHL Express will be delivered at Korean Consulate General in Chicago, NOT your address)

How to Apply?

- In person only

 *Online application is for Korean citizens who can be verified through a Korean phone number or joint certificate(공동인증서).

 *For children under 18, parents can apply for a passport instead of their child. (No online application)


Required documents

Adult

 • Application form(color-printed, use only black pens)

 • Passport

   - For the first time or Non-electronic passport holder: a certificate of family relations and basic certificate are required*

※ If verification is possible through Public Information Sharing System(ex: Government 24), submission is not required.

    *Applying for certificates: https://overseas.mofa.go.kr/us-chicago-en/brd/m26755/view.do?seq=2&page=1

   - If you lost your passport, Korean ID card(a resident registration certificate or Korean driver license) is required.

 • Photo(passport-sized): 3.5cmX4.5cm, 2X2 inches (must be taken in last 6 months)

   - You can take a digital photo at the consulate general(free)

 • Evidence of Valid Status in U.S.(ex.green card, visa, etc)

   - All documents must be original(Copy is NOT ACCEPTED)

   - Dual citizen: an original birth certificate or valid U.S. passport is required.

   - If you restored your Korean nationality, please provide a Foreign Nationality Non-Exercise Pledge(외국국적불행사 서약서) or a resident registration certificiate(주민등록증).

     - F1 Visa: Visa+i-20, J1 Visa: Visa + DS-2019, EAD holder: EAD card

     - Dependant(E2, F2, J2, H4) visa holder: a principal applicant's visa((E2, F1, J1, H1B) is required.

   - If you are renewing or lost your green card, an original I-797(from USCIS) is required.

 ※ When your names on documentation and a Korean passport are different, you must provide another documents regarding your name change(U.S. birth certificate, Marriage certificate, etc) 

 • Processing fee(Only cash or money order)

  - 58 Pages: $52

  - 26 Pages: $49


Children Under 18

 • General required documents mentioned above

 • Consent form of legal parents

 • Passport of a visiting legal parent

 • Evidence of Valid Status in U.S(for legal parents)

   - Green card holder: both parents' green cards must be provided

   - Visa holder: both parents' visas must be provided

   - Parents of U.S. Citizen do not have to provide their evidence of valid status in U.S.

 • Processing fee(Only cash or money order)

  1) Under 8

    - 58 Pages: $35

    - 26 Pages: $32

  2) 8 or older

    - 58 Pages: $44

    - 26 Pages: $41

Change your name on a passport

 • Original document for changing your name(Permanent resident card, U.S. Passport, certficiate of employment, etc)


How to receive

 1. Mail

   - Application form of mail

   - Trackable prepaid return envelope and stamp are required.

   (USPS Express mail or priority mail: https://www.usps.com/)

 2. Pick up 

   - An appointment is not needed for receiving a passport.

   - When an applicant(adult) cannot pick up a new passport, he/she has to fill out a power of attorney(signature required)*.

     *수임인 = a person who is going to pick up a passport on behalf of an applicant

      위임인 = a passport holder


 A Passport for Urgent Travel

  ※ An emergency passport is limited to one year(electronic chip not embedded). 

     It is valid only for one round trip(double entry is not allowed)

   Some countries may not allow an emergency passport. Please check if you are allowed to enter your destination with an emergency passport before you travel.

   It takes 4-5 hours to issue an emergency passport.
