「K-Movie Night : MINARI」

- Special feature for 2021 K-Week hosted in San Francisco and Oakland – 

□ The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in San Francisco is hosting 「K-Movie Night : Minari」in San Francisco (June 22nd-June 23rd) and Oakland(July 9th).

ㅇ This exclusive screening is a part of the Annual Cultural Program, ‘K-Week’. With the whole world impacted by the unexpected event of COVID-19, the General Consulate hopes to bring local residents and the entire community together through this event, which are provided not only to support the exhausted state of minds that many of us have personally experienced, but to also inspire hope and awareness towards Korean culture and art.

ㅇ This event will be organized as follows: 1. Special guest feature, Pixar Director Edwin Chang and his short film, ‘Wind’ will be presented. 2. Opening ceremony (Special remarks by the Consulate General & Movie Correspondence) 3. Screening of ‘Minari’ (separated into 2 segments).

□ ’Minari’ is a movie about a Korean immigrant family that moved from California to rural Arkansas during the 1980s. This movie was highly acclaimed throughout the world.

※ Received critical acclaim, including the 78th Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film, and awarded 6 nominations in the 93rd Academy Awards.

□ We wholeheartedly congratulate Actress Youn Yuh-jung for winning best supporting actress at the Academy Awards. We hope that our continuous efforts in raising Asian awareness and immigration are better understood through eye-opening films like these.
