Consul General, Won-Jik Kwon presented 20,000 KF 94 Face Masks to the Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) on behalf of the Republic of Korea Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs. Receiving the generous donation on behalf of WDVA was director Lourdes E. Alvarado Ramos.
“We are grateful to the more than 120,000 Washingtonians who served in the Korean War, and the 500 servicemen and women who lost their lives. They are all heroes to the people of Korea and the development of Washington-Korea relations in the broader context of the Korea-US alliance,” said the Consul General. “Korea is a nation that does not forget its past and we are grateful to be reminded of their contributions by today’s face mask donation. It is a small token of our sincere gratitude.”
The donation ceremony took place on Friday, April 16, 2021, in Seattle. This was the second donation of supplies to combat the spread of COVID-19 from the Consulate General’s office to WDVA. In December, 2020, 850 bottles of donated hand sanitizer were delivered to Washington’s four State Veterans Homes, State Veterans Cemetery and other WDVA office locations.
“The generosity and kindness shown by the Consul General to Washington State’s Veterans and their families is has always been appreciated,” said Lourdes E. “Alfie” Alvarado Ramos, the Director of WDVA. “But during the COVID-19 Pandemic, the compassion and drive to assist Washington’s Korean War Veterans, and all Washington veterans and families has been unparalleled. Our sincere thanks and gratitude go to Consul General Kwon and his entire staff.”
In addition to the donations of hand sanitizer and face masks, the Consulate General has recognized and presented Ambassador for Peace Medals to Korean War Veterans or to a surviving family member at ceremonies throughout the state. These meaningful events serve as a reminder to Korean War Veterans that they are not forgotten, and that their service is remembered and appreciated by a grateful country.
