[COVID-19] Mandatory quarantine to all travelers entering Korea from abroad

DATE
2020-03-31

The Government of the Republic of Korea has decided to implement mandatory quarantine to all travelers entering Korea from abroad, regardless of nationality, in an effort to prevent further inflow of COVID-19. The following measures will come into effect from 00:00 hours on 1 April 2020.

o  All incoming Koreans and foreign nationals are subject to 14-day mandatory quarantine. All in-bound travelers are

required to download the Self-Quarantine Safety and Protection App on their smartphone.

o  All in-bound travelers who display fever or other symptoms associated with COVID-19 as well as all asymptomatic

foreign nationals who depart from Europe are escorted to designated quarantine facilities located at the airport

to be tested for COVID-19. Those who test  positive will either be hospitalized for treatment or quarantined and

monitored at a Living Treatment Center according to the severity of their symptoms. Those who test negative are

required to quarantine for 14 days.

o  All asymptomatic foreign nationals with long-term visas (holders of alien registration cards) are required to observe

self-quarantine at their residence. Foreign nationals with long-term visas without a place of residence or on a

short-term visit are required to be quarantined at a government-run facility, at their own expense.

o  To minimize restrictions on necessary international travels, the 14-day quarantine requirement is waived for holders,

excluding family members, of A1 (Diplomatic), A2 (Official) and A3 (Treaties) Visas, and those for whom an Isolation

Exemption Certificate is issued at a Korean Embassy/Consulate prior to their departure. These travelers are tested for

COVID-19 upon arrival, and, if tested negative, will be subject to “active monitoring”. This includes daily submission

of health conditions via the Self-Diagnosis App and the daily response to phone calls from health authorities throughout

    their stay in Korea.

o  The government of the Republic of Korea requests that all travelers entering Korea must follow the above-mentioned

measures lest they should be subject to forceful expulsion and future entry ban.
