Dr Lee Jong-Sup, Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Korea to Australia, laid a wreath at the Australian National Korean War Memorial on 12 March, as his first engagement since arriving in Canberra.
Australia was the second nation, only behind the U.S., to commit troops from all three armed forces to defend the ROK. As many as 17,000 Australian soldiers gallantly fought for the peace and freedom on the Korean Peninsula.
Building on the special bond forged in blood, our two countries have become one of the closest partners working together to promote peace, stability, and prosperity of the Korean Peninsula and the region.
We will never forget the noble sacrifices and dedication of Australian Korean War Veterans, which laid the foundation for the friendship and trust that our two countries share today.
