The Embassy of the Republic of Korea to the Kingdom of Belgium held an event to deliver masks to the Korean War veterans of Belgium, Luxembourg, and Armed Forces.  * May 12.(BEL), May 13.(LUX)

The event was part of a project to commemorate the Korean War, planned by 70th Anniversary Korean War Memorial Committee (Chairman: Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun) to provide veterans of 22 United Nations with masks to prevent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Belgian United Nations Command has a meaningful relation with the Republic of Korea. It was a Belgian-Luxembourg Military Force, sent to aid the Republic of Korea during the Korean War. The Battalion-sized unit arrived in Korea in 1951 and remained until after the cease-fire in 1955.

The Veterans Associations of the two countries graciously offered to share the donation with military medical personnel currently combating COVID-19. The veterans and the Armed Forces thanked the Republic of Korea for remembering their ties and for providing such valuable token of support during a crucial moment.
