The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Montreal works attentively to ensure the safety and civil rights of Korean citizens and to provide both Korean and Canadian citizens with various consular services within its jurisdiction over Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince-Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador.
Montreal is the largest city in Quebec, the second largest in Canada and an important center for Commerce, Finance, Industry, Technology, Culture and World Affairs. Montreal is known for its aerospace, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, multimedia and cultural industry hosting popular and famous festivals such as the International Jazz Festival of Montreal, the FrancoFolies and the Montreal World Film Festival.
Commonly referred to as the Paris of North America, Montreal has a European flair and sophistication that makes it one of the popular metropolitan centres in North America. It hosted EXPO 67 as well as the 1976 Summer Olympics in which YANG Jung-Mo, a South Korean Greco-Roman wrestler, won a gold medal making him the first Olympic champion from South Korea for the first time ever since the establishment of the Korean government in 1948 .
Situated in Montreal, Quebec, and based on the aforementioned socio-cultural and economic diversities, the Consulate General has been making its best efforts to promote exchanges and cooperation between Korea and Canada in the fields of culture, youth, economy and trade.
Also, the Consulate General holds a position as the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea on the Council to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). As a member country on the Council of ICAO since October 2001, we protect the rights and interests of Korean aviation as well as contribute to enhancing global civil aviation safety and security, the environmental protection and the sustainable development of air transport.
