- Welcome to the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the United States of America!
Through the proud history of Korea’s economic development and democratization, the ROK-US Alliance has blossomed and grown into a partnership that seeks to build peace and prosperity in the global community. With new administrations taking power in both Korea and the United States in 2017, the presidents of our two countries confirmed their commitment to further advancing our alliance into a “greater Alliance.” The two countries will also join together to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue and establish an everlasting peace on the Korean Peninsula.
The bilateral economic relationship has also experienced rapid growth. Between 2011 and 2016, bilateral trade between Korea and the U.S. increased by 12% thanks to the KORUS FTA. This growth came despite challenging external economic conditions, in which global trade decreased by 12%. Korea and the U.S. are also closely consulting to further develop the mutual benefits of the KORUS FTA. With the goal of creating jobs and fostering innovation-led growth, the two countries are also strengthening cooperation in various fields including science, information communication technology and energy. I am confident that bilateral economic and trade relations will further advance to a future-oriented and comprehensive partnership.
The Korean American community with its 117 years of history has reliably reinforced the firm ROK-US Alliance. The dedication and hard work of ethnic Koreans has borne remarkable fruits in all areas of U.S. society, including politics, economics and culture. The Embassy of the Republic of Korea will continue its effort to better support the 2.5 million Korean Americans and 90,000 Korean students studying in the United States, as they strive to become respected members of American society and play a bridging role in the development of the bilateral relations. Furthermore, the Embassy will continue to make its best efforts to provide consular services that meet the expectations of Korean visitors.
Serving as the Korean Ambassador to the U.S. during this critical period is a heavy responsibility. Our Embassy and I will continue to do our utmost in order to serve our nation’s interests. I look forward to your affectionate attention and support to further deepen Korea-US relations. Thank you.
