Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Republic of Austria and Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea to the International Organizations in Vienna

The 64th IAEA General Conference was held on 21-25 September 2020 at the Vienna International Centre with the participation of 172 Member States including the Republic of Korea. During this year’s conference, the keynote speeches of many Heads of Delegations and various side events were held virtually due to the COVID-19 situation.

In his video statement, Mr. Byungseon Jeong, 1st Vice Minister of Science and ICT, spoke about Korea’s position on important issues such as the Fukushima contaminated water problem, achieving denuclearization and establishing a peace system on the Korean Peninsula, and Korea’s cooperation with the IAEA in responding to COVID-19.

During his statement following the adoption of the resolution on North Korea, Ambassador SHIN Chae-Hyun assessed that the adoption of this year’s IAEA General Conference resolution reflects the strong and unified message of the international community in support of the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the establishment of permanent peace in the region. He also called on the international community’s robust and continuous support for the Korean government’s ongoing peace process on the Korean Peninsula.
