Embassy of the Republic of Korea to Denmark

I was appointed as the Ambassador to Denmark in 25 December 2021, and I would like to greet you all.

Denmark is well-known to Koreans for H.C. Andersen, Grundtvig, and Lego. Despite land area(42,934㎢) that is one-fifth that of the Korean Peninsula and a population of 5.83 million, the largest island in the world, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands, with its abundance of marine resources are all parts of the Danish realm.

As a transparent, egalitarian society Denmark has some of the best systems in the world in the field of welfare, renewable energy and environment, labor-management relations and development cooperation. Denmark is also known as one of the happiest countries in the world. Overall, Denmark is a small but strong country that provides world-class products and services in the field of pharmaceuticals, distribution, food, machinery, chemistry, and design.

Relations between Korea and Denmark date back over a hundred years, when the Empire of Chosun and Denmark concluded the "Friendship, Trade, and Sea-trade Treaty" in 1902. It is also significant to note that during the Korean War, Denmark was one of the first countries to help Koreans by sending its hospital ship "Jutlandia." After the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1959, Korea and Denmark have enjoyed friendly and cooperative relations in various fields, and in 2011, our two countries further strengthened their bilateral ties through the establishment of a Strategic Partnership and the conclusion of the Green Growth Alliance. Since then, Korea and Denmark have strived to strengthen high-level exchanges and diversify areas of cooperation. In particular, the strategic partnership between the two countries has been upgraded to a comprehensive green strategic partnership through a video summit between the two countries during the Seoul P4G Summit in 2021.

This spirit of friendship and cooperation between Korea and Denmark that has continued for over a century has become a strong tradition in its own right. On this basis, the Embassy will make the best efforts to establish a future-oriented cooperative relationship befitting the values of the 21st century. In addition, the Embassy will work for the safety and for the benefit of overseas Koreans, as well as Korean individuals and companies visiting Denmark.

It is my hope that this homepage will offer a good glimpse into the Korea-Denmark bilateral relationship, and provide relevant information on trade, investment, travel and consular affairs. The Embassy will continuously update relevant information, so I kindly ask for your attention and support in this regard.
