2018 Korean Peninsula Peace Forum

The Korean Peninsula Peace Forum co-hosted by the ROK Embassy and London Asia Pacific Centre of SOAS and King's College was held at SOAS on 17th November. At the forum, Amb. Enna Park, ROK Ambassador to the UK, Amb Sahnghoon Bahk, Ambassador for Public Diplomacy of the ROK Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prof. Stephen Hopgood, Pro-Director (International) of SOAS, Amb. Charles Hay, former UK Ambassador to the ROK welcomed the panels and audience and opened the forum with their congratulatory remarks. The Korean experts participated in the forum are Dr Haksoon Paik, President of Sejong Institute, Prof. Heungkyu Kim, Director of China Policy Institute of Ajou University, Dr Yonghyun Kim, Professor at Dongguk University, and Amb. Joohyun Baik, Professor Emeritus at KNDA. From the UK, Dr Tat Yan Kong, Reader of SOAS & Co-Chair LAPC, Dr Ramon Pacheco Pardo, Reader of King's College & Co-Chair LAPC, Dr John Nilsson-Wright, Senior Lecturer at Cambridege University, Mr Tom Plant, Director of Proliferation and Nuclear Policy at RUSI, Amb. John Everard, former UK Ambassador to North Korea, and Prof Hazel Smith, Professorial Research Associate at SOAS participated. The leading experts on security issues on the Korean Peninsula presented and exchanged their views on how to move forward denuclearisation and peace process on the Korean Peninsula as well as on the inter-Korean relations, integration of North Korea into the international economy and the role of the UK and Europe.
