APPLICATION FOR CRIMINAL/INVESTIGATION RECORD CHECK REPORT

The Korean National Police Agency (KNPA) is providing Background Check (Criminal/Ivestigation Records) according to below procedure.

The application for CRC must be submitted in person.
As of 5th of November 2020, all consular service visitors must make an appointment online for the time between 2pm and 4pm.
Appointments can only be scheduled via the online booking system below (click 'Reservation to visit a Diplomatic Mission);  https://consul.mofa.go.kr/ciph/0800/selectCIPH0801Deng.do 
PLEASE do NOT call the Embassy for appointment because the Embassy cannot make an appointment for applicants by phone.

1. Applicants

  • Korean nationals living abroad

  • Foreign nationals who lived in Korea in the past.

  • ※ Korean nationals as well as foreigners who currently live in Korea can request this service through local police stations. (tel: +82-2-3150-1960~1)

2. Required Documents

  • 1 Application (download)

  • 1 Standard Passport Photo taken within 6 month (3×4㎝)

  • Current Passport if you had and used different passports when you were in Korea please provide them with current passport.

  • 1 Self-Addressed Envelope with stamp (If you want to receive the certificate by post)

  • free of Charge

  • You can fill out the application form in the Embassy.

  • Documents you presented to the Embassy are not allowed to return(except your passports)

3. Procedure

  • You must visit the Embassy with documents above, completed application form.  (APPLICATION FOR CRIMINAL/INVESTIGATION RECORD CHECK)  Please note. We do not accept applications by post

  • Applicants must use this documents for the immigration purpose only. It is illegal to use this certificates for identification purpose(e.g. for a job application in UK), based on [ ACT ON THE LAPSE OF CRIMINAL SENTENCES, Article 6 (Reference to Criminal Records and Investigation Records, and Restrictions on Reply Thereto, etc.]

  • Please confirm with the organisation you would like to submit to if this would be an issue with them. You can NOT leave the section ‘①AGENCY YOU WILL SUBMIT THE CERTIFICATE’ on the application form blank. If you leave this section blank or write an organisation name which is not a part of UK government or Embassies, it would be rejected by the Korean Police.

  • Please do NOT call to inquire about this issue to the Embassy since the Embassy cannot help or advise the applicants.

  • Opening hours (Mon-Fri: 9:00-12:00 and 14:00-16:00,except bank holidays)

  • You need to fill out most sections in the form.

  • We may not accept your application depends on the purpose and agency you will submit the certificate.

  • Completed Form MUST BE CERTIFIED by Korean Embassy personnel with a seal or stamp.

  • This document is very sensitive information by Private Act, certifying step must be done.

  • We do not issue any confirmation letter for your application.

  • After 2 weeks later your application, visit the Embassy to pick up your Certificate or you can request mailing service if your residence is distant. For mailing service you need to bring a self-Addressed Envelope with stamps when you apply the Certificate in the Embassy.

  • Issuance is only for the person registered. If you use mailing service, destination should be the home address in the application.
