Ambassador Gunn Kim met with members of the senior leadership of the Korean Chamber of Commerce (KOCHAM) in the UK

DATE
2021-08-02

Ambassador Gunn Kim and Minister Hong Geun Jeong received a courtesy call from six senior leadership members of the Korean Chamber of Commerce (KOCHAM) in the UK on 30th July. KOCHAM is an association of Korean businesses in the UK and was established in 1986. It now has 97 companies as members and they vary from Electronics & Telecommunications, Energy & Chemistry, Foreign Trade & Distribution, Construction & Shipbuilding, Transport & Logistics, Tourism, Bank, Securities & Insurance to Law & Accounting. KOCHAM not only promotes the interests of Korean companies but also acts as a bridge between Korean and British businesses. Since the pandemic, it has been helping the Korean community in the UK as well by donating to Kingston Hospital.

During the meeting, members of the senior leadership, including Mr Myung Eun Park, Project Manager of SK Ecoplant and President of KOCHAM, talked with the Ambassador and Minister about a range of topics associated with the Korea-UK bilateral economic partnership, such as taking preventive measures against the current pandemic, management circumstances after Brexit and action against climate change. It was a fruitful discussion encompassing many different issues and reconfirmed the strong ties between KOCHAM and the Embassy. Ambassador Kim thanked the members for leading their companies amid Brexit and the pandemic, and for sharing their experiences navigating through any difficulties. Both sides agreed to cooperate more in the future.

This is the beginning of many upcoming meetings with business leaders and I hope the seeds planted by former Ambassador Enna Park will blossom with our new Ambassador Gunn Kim.
