Notice (K-ETA) Information about Korea Electronic Travel Authorization(updated 30 APR 2024)

ㅁ What is K-ETA?

K-ETA is an electronic travel authorization that visa-free foreign visitors need to obtain before entering the Republic of Korea, by submitting relevant information online such as their travel information.


ㅁ Conditions for Applicant

- A person from 18 to up to 65 years old who does not have a valid Korean visa

- A person from 18 to up to 65 years old  intending to enter Republic of Korea for the purpose of tourism, visiting relatives, participating in events or meetings and business(other than profitable activities) for short term

  ※Even for short-term visit, a person who enters Korea for other purposes, which is not mentioned above(employment, study, immigration etc.), must obtain appropriate visa.

      ※ Short-term Superintendent/Engineer : C-45(☞Requirements)


ㅁ Which countries are eligible for K-ETA?

- Due to Covid-19, currently the nationals of 112 countries can apply for K-ETA.

  In this case, the application fee will be charged. (10,00 KRW)

Greeks and Cypriots are nationals of countries eligible for K-ETA temporary exemption until December 31, 2024, and thus they are not required to apply for K-ETA. (Greeks: 90 days, Cypriots: 30 days)


ㅁ How to Apply

- You can apply for your K-ETA at the official K-ETA website www.k-eta.go.kr or mobile app 'K-ETA'.
- You must apply for K-ETA no later than 72 hours in advance from your flight or ship bound to the Republic of Korea.

※ In case of K-ETA denial, applicant must apply visa and it takes around 2 weeks. The Embassy highly recommends to apply K-ETA at least 2~3 weeks prior to flight with time to spare.


ㅁ Period of Validity

- The period of validity is 3 years from the date of authorization.

- Within 3 years, travelers can stay up to aforementioned allowed period of stay on each visit.

  (Greek : up to 90 days, Cypriot : up to 30 days, Albanian : up to 30 days)


ㅁ Fees

- The fee is 10,000 KRW (approximately 7-8 euro, Additional fee excluded).

- It can be paid by credit cards or debit cards.

- The application fee is non-refundable after payment is made regardless of the result of the application.


ㅁ Checking Results

- K-ETA approval results are sent to the email which the applicant provided upon application.

- Also applicants can check K-ETA approval status/results with their application number on the K-ETA website.


ㅁ Re-application

- You must re-apply for K-ETA even if your current K-ETA is still valid, in case you entered incorrect information or the information you entered changed, such as your name, sex, date of birth, nationality, passport information (passport number or expiration date), criminal history, and infectious disease information.


ㅁ Exempt from arrival card 

Those who have the authorized K-ETA are exempted from filling out the arrival card upon arrival. 


ㅁ What if my K-ETA application disapproved?

- Applicant who receive a denial result, may apply visa through Korean Embassy/Consulate. 

- Visa issuance takes around 2 weeks.

※ K-ETA is irrelevant to the Covid 19.

※ All superintendents and engineers who travel to Korea for work(attend vessel, supervise etc.) must apply proper visa regardless of length of stay in Korea. K-ETA is not applicable.



Q1. How long does it take from submitting the K-ETA application to receiving the results?

A1. The applicant can receive the results by e-mail, within 72 hours after completing the K-ETA application.


Q2. I am a transfer passenger. Do I need to get a K-ETA?

A2. No. Transfer/transit passengers who are not entering Korea do not need to get a K-ETA.


Q3. Do I need to get a K-ETA every time I visit Korea?

A3. No. Once you are approved of a K-ETA, you do not have to apply for 2 years. However, if the passport used for the K-ETA application expires in less than 2 years, that K-ETA approval will be valid until the passport expiration date.


Q4. I received K-ETA approval with incorrect information. Will I be allowed to enter Korea?

A4. You may face disadvantages such as entry denial. Please re-apply for your K-ETA.


Q5. If I have a K-ETA, am I allowed to work in Korea?

A5. No. You cannot engage in profitable activities in Korea with a K-ETA. You must obtain a separate visa that allows you to work and participate in employment activities in Korea.


Q6. I am travelling with a friend, can we apply for K-ETA together?

A6. Yes. One applicant can apply for up to 30 people, such as family members, and can proceed with the K-ETA payment as well. The K-ETA results for each person will be sent to the applicant’s e-mail. Each applicant can also check the K-ETA approval status with the application number and passport.
