Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Republic of Latvia

Latvia is a country renowned for its vast forests and beautiful beaches, highlighting its natural beauty. The Historic Centre of Riga, the capital of Latvia, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, was once the major center of the Hanseatic League during the medieval period. It presents a unique beauty, blending various European architectural styles.

Latvia, serving as a trade crossroads connecting Northern, Western, and Eastern Europe, has a long history. It is also a nation with significant growth potential in cutting-edge industries, such as 5G, ICT, and biotechnology, among others.

Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1991, the Republic of Korea and the Republic of Latvia have continuously developed a strong, friendly partnership in various fields, including politics, economy, and culture. During the visit of the president Edgars Rinkevics of Latvia to Korea in November 2024, a summit was held where both leaders agreed to further advance bilateral cooperation in various fields, including biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, security, and defense.

Interest in Korean culture, including K-pop, the Korean language, and Taekwondo, continues to grow steadily in Latvia. In response, the Embassy has hosted a variety of cultural events, such as K-pop festivals, Korean film festivals, and Korean cooking classes, and will continue to strive to promote Korean culture in the future. Additionally, the Embassy is committed to supporting the stable residence of our nationals and the smooth operations of our companies through proactive consular services and economic diplomacy.

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea will do its utmost to open new avenues of cooperation between Latvia and Korea, in line with Korea’s role as a Global Pivotal State.
