Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Republic of Latvia

Dear Visitors,

Latvia is famous for its beautiful natural environment. People are moved by its natural beauty including lush forests and beaches. And indeed Latvia has served as a trade crossroads connecting neighboring countries of Northern Europe, Western Europe and Eastern Europe. And it truly holds great promise for the future since it has also tremendous scope for growth in science and technology and new industries including 5G and ICT. The path ahead is indeed bright.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1991, Korea and Latvia have continued to significantly develop the ties of collaboration spanning a whole range of the areas including the political, economic, trade and cultural realms. Moreover, at the bilateral summit held on the occasion of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics the two countries took meaningful steps forward in the bilateral relations. They agreed to upgrade the Consulate to an Embassy, launch a Joint Economic Committee and sign an Aviation Agreement.

Recently, there is a deepening interest in Korean culture such as K-Pop, Korean language and Taekwondo in Latvia. In tune with this, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea has been delighted to hold a range of cultural events including the B-Boy performance, K-Pop Festival and Korean Film Festival. And we will indeed continue to engage in efforts to promote Korean culture in Latvia. This shared love for aspects of Korean culture forms strong bonds between our peoples, fostering goodwill and generating impetus for shared endeavors. Indeed, the love for culture resonates, creating positive energy also for concerted endeavors in other fields.

In addition, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea will render full support for the stable and fruitful stay of Korean nationals and the smooth activities of Korean companies through such ways as active consular services and the pursuit of economic diplomacy.

In particular, 2022 was a year in which new governments were launched in both countries. This is therefore a time of renewed momentum. The ROK embraces the goal of serving as a Global Pivotal State. And the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, in keeping with this vision, will strive to open a new chapter of the mutually beneficial interaction with Latvia. We look forward to exploring and opening new avenues in the bonds of friendship and partnership between our nations.
