Import of products, animals and food to Korea

Animal inspection

- Passengers with animals or animal by-products must mark the appropriate box on the Customs possession declaration form and be inspected by a quarantine officer. When entering with animals or animal by-products, you must submit the quarantine inspection approval form from the origin country.

- All import from countries banned for import into Korea are strictly prohibited, and you will be fined for not reporting possession of such items.

- If you visited a farm while abroad, please avoid any contact with livestock for 5 days after entry.

※ You will be fined for illegally carrying in animals or animal by-products without inspection.

Animal products requiring declaration

- Beef (Pork, lamb meat, poultry, and all other meat)

- Ham (Ham, sausage, jerky, and all other processed meat)

- Deer antler (Deer antler, bone, blood, and other animal products)

- Egg (Egg whites, egg yolk, and other egg products)

- Milk (Milk, cheese, butter, and other dairy products)


※ Carried animal products may be allowed in when presented with inspection certificate from the import-allowed country and nothing is amiss upon inspection.

Plant inspection

- Passengers with live plants, fruit, vegetable, agricultural product, forest product, flower, seedling, oriental medicine, etc. must mark the appropriate box on the Customs possession declaration form and be inspected by a quarantine officer.

- You must submit the quarantine inspection approval form from the origin country for sapling, seedling, root, and any vegetation for replanting.

- All types of vegetation from abroad are the key route for alien parasite transfer, so all plants carried on flight must be reported and are subject to quarantine inspection


※ You will be fined for illegally carrying in plants without inspection.

※ All heated or processed vegetation products (kimchi, rice cake, etc.) are not subject to quarantine.

Quarantining of Marine Products

- Travelers carrying live fish, shellfish, and crustaceans, or frozen/refrigerated abalones, oysters, shrimp, etc., must check the appropriate boxes on the Traveler Declaration Form and submit all marine products for quarantine to the quarantine officer.

- Items sensitive to infectious aquatic life diseases (includes 21 different kinds, e.g. white spot disease [WSD]) require the pertinent travelers to submit a Quarantine Certificate of Export Country issued by the country of export.


※ Those that fail to report marine life in possession shall be fined up to KRW 1 million.

※ Heated or dried marine products are not subject to quarantine.

- Live marine life suspected of being used for cultivation or designated quarantine products used for cultivation
