Korean Language Trainee Visa (D-4-1)

1. Eligibility to apply for a Korean Language Trainee Visa (D-4-1)


You are eligible to apply for this visa if you are

A person with at least high school diploma or the equivalent, who plans to study Korean language at an institution established in accordance with the Higher Education Act, 

or the Special Act on Establishment and Management of Foreign Educational Institutions in Free Economic Zones and Jeju Free International City.



2. Required Documents


▢ For passport holders of OECD member countries, including Norway and Iceland:


① Visa Application Form (Fill out online, printed, and signed)

② Physical Passport (more than 6 months valid) & Copy (personal information section with photo)

*For Non-Norwegian or Non-Icelandic passport holders are required to submit a residence certificate (Bostedsattest) or a copy of residence card (Non-EU citizens) to apply for a visa through us.


 A copy of Business Registration Certificate issued by host university in Korea


 A copy of Certificate of Admission issued by host university in Korea


⑤ Fee: 600 NOK

*Visa fees vary depending on the nationality.



▢ For passports holders of Non-OECD member countries are required to submit the following additional documents:


① Original copy of document proving your financial statement*

* In principle, documents proving your financial abilities must be reviewed through original copies 

- Ex: bank statement, bankbook, scholarship receipt, deposit/withdrawal statement

- Bank statement is only accepted when it is issued within the past 30 days

※ When submitting a parents bank statement, family relation certificate must be attached.


② Certificate of enrollment or documents proving the highest level of education



※ Since Korea and Norway are members of the Apostille Convention, documents issued by Norwegian educational institutions should be notarized with Apostille. Apostilles can be obtained from Statsforvalteren. Please note that the Embassy does not notarize Norwegian academic documents.



3. Please Note


❍ Please be informed that it takes about 10 working days to issue a visa after submitting all physical documents to the Embassy. Reservation is required before visiting the Embassy.


❍ The period of stay for the student visa is granted the same as the period of stay indicated on the Certificate of Admission.

Usually, the period of Certificate of Admission is granted including the settlement period. If you want to extend your stay, contact the host university in Korea.


❍ Specific visas including student visa can only be issued as a single-entry visa.

The single-entry visa is valid for 3 months. Do not apply for the visa 3 months before entering the Republic of Korea.

- Foreigners intending to stay in Korea for more than 90 days after entry have to get an Alien Registration Card (ARC) from the Korea Immigration office, and multiple-entry will be allowed with the ARC and re-entry permit.
