  2. Consul General’s Greetings

Tēnā koutou katoa! Tēnā koutou katoa!
Welcome to the Consulate of the Republic of Korea in Auckland.

The Consulate has jurisdiction over five regions, including Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Northland, and Gisborne. There are approximately 26,000 Korean nationals living in our jurisdiction, which represents 75 per cent of the total Korean population in New Zealand. These regions also accounted for 55 per cent of NZ's national GDP in 2023.

The Consulate is located in Auckland, which is home to over one-third of the national population, about 1.5 million people. As the gateway to New Zealand, Auckland serves as a hub for New Zealand's politics, economy, culture, and education. Several large international events, including the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and the America’s Cup (Yacht race), are held here.

Auckland sprawls around twin harbours, offering a distinctive blend of natural wonders and metropolitan adventures. With beautiful beaches and scenery as its backdrop, Auckland is consistently ranked among the world's top 10 most livable cities, thanks to its friendly people and outstanding food and wine.

I am proud to witness many Korean New Zealanders (Kowis) integrating into mainstream society and actively serving the community in various fields. To support our people in thriving in NZ society, the Consulate has been working hard to build flourishing communities and cultural and commercial links. Just to name a few efforts of the Consulate: K-Festival, Korean cooking classes, and Taekwondo classes in local NZ schools across Auckland.

Our Consulate has been working diligently to enhance bilateral partnership and collaboration with New Zealand. We prioritize the safety of Koreans and will continue to make utmost efforts to improve consular services, upholding a centrepiece of our foreign policy: our people and national interest.

Once again, thank you for visiting our website. I hope you find it useful. I extend my best wishes and warmest greetings to you all.

Consul General of the Republic of Korea Kim, HongKi
