Dr. Kiyoung CHOI, Minister of Science and ICT, shared the “Korean Digital New Deal Strategy” and COVID-19 pandemic response experiences at the launch of the OECD Digital Economy Outlook 2020 on November 27.
The report – the third edition of the OECD’s flagship publication on the digital economy by the Committee on the Digital Economy – is a snapshot of the state of the digital economy and policy environment. It provides a special focus on how the COVID-19 pandemic is amplifying opportunities and challenges from the digital transformation in the aspects of data, networks, digital security, and more. Especially, it highlights that Korea is in first place in terms of fiber broadband connections.
The OECD volume also includes Korea’s use of ICT to combat the COVID-19 pandemic; namely the “Self-quarantine Safety Mobile App” and the “Epidemiological Investigation Support System.” Moreover, the report discusses Korea’s efforts in new tech services, such as the “5G+ Strategy,” the “National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy,” and the AI open-innovation hub.
This virtual event was moderated by OECD Deputy Secretary-General Ulrik Vestergaard Knudsen and was attended by Italy’s Minister of Technological Innovation and Digitalization, the World Bank’s Development Economics and Chief Economist, and members of OECD Delegations.
