Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Korea to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)

From this year, the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Korea and the OECD agreed to start multi-year research program in the field of Public Finance. The topics of the joint research program this year would be measures to secure mid-to long-term fiscal sustainability, fiscally efficient elderly poverty alleviation policies and international comparison of tax expenditures and budget expenditures.

At the launch ceremony held at the OECD headquarters in Paris, France on March 18, Ambassador Sangdae CHOI, Vice Minister of Economy and Finance Yoonsang KIM, OECD Deputy Secretary-General Yoshiki TAKEUCHI and staff members of the both parties discussed the topics and research directions after exchanging letters of intent.

In the congratulatory remarks, Amb. CHOI emphasized that the task of securing financial soundness cannot be delayed responding to the future challenges such as demographic changes due to low birth rate and aging, green transition and digital transformation. Amb. CHOI demonstrated his expectation for the collaborative research and hoped that it will produce fruitful outputs though more comprehensive multi-faceted analysis.
