The Republic of Korea and the Independent State of Papua New Guinea established diplomatic ties in 1976 and have since steadily developed close relations of friendship and cooperation in various fields, including economy and trade as well as development and fisheries.

It is also encouraging that an increasing number of Korean firms have in recent years shown interest in investment in and trade relations with the Independent State of Papua New Guinea. I believe that such relations will be further strengthened and deepened in the years to come.
