The Exhibition ‘Haenyo - Women of the Sea’ at Östasiatiska Museet
The Exhibition ‘Haenyo - Women of the Sea’ at Östasiatiska Museet which is jointly organized by the embassy of the Republic of Korea in Sweden and the National Museums of World Culture has been being held at the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities (Östasiatiska Museet) since May 17.
The exhibition features 34 impressive photo portraits of the diving women of Jeju Island taken by photographer Hyung S. Kim, unique objects used by the women divers and a documentary about Jeju Haenyo “Breathing Underwater” by director Hee-Young Ko.
The vernissage which took place on May 17 was attended by special guests from the Republic of Korea: photographer Hyung S. Kim, film director Hee-Young Ko, Haenyeo expert/Professor Chul-in Yoo, and two Jeju Haenyeo, Hyung-mi Kim and Ji-ae Chae as well as Amassador Jeong-kyu Lee, Director General Ann Follin of the National Museums of World Culture and Director General Seok-in Hong of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Repuiblic of Korea.
This exhibition is one of the main programs to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic ties between the Republic of Korea and Sweden. The exhibition will run through September 29 at the Östasiatiska Museet.
