Located in the southernmost part of the Caribbean Sea in Central America, Trinidad and Tobago is the center of the Caribbean region with a diverse ethnic and cultural mix that has been influenced by a long history of immigration from various European countries, including Spain, France, and the United Kingdom, as well as from neighboring Caribbean countries, China, India, and Lebanon since 1834.
Trinidad and Tobago is a key member of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), which plays a leading role in regional cooperation and economic integration in the Caribbean and Central America, and is home to the headquarters of the 25-nation Association of Caribbean States (ACS). Trinidad and Tobago is playing a growing role on the international stage, including serving as the first-ever President of the United Nations General Assembly in 2023.
Korea and Trinidad and Tobago established diplomatic relations in 1985, and as one of the most industrialized countries in the Central American and Caribbean region, Trinidad and Tobago is the largest exporter of ammonia and methanol to Korea among Asian countries. In addition, imports of Korean automobiles and home appliances are on the rise, and interest in Korean culture is growing, with Hallyu clubs being formed in local universities and high schools, so the prospects for friendly and cooperative relations between our two countries are bright. In 2025, the two countries will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, and the embassy is preparing for a colorful and meaningful 40th anniversary event.
The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Trinidad and Tobago serves four countries in the Caribbean region: Grenada, Barbados, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The Embassy will continue to strive to develop relations with these countries, and we will do our best to ensure the safety and convenience of our citizens living in these countries and those visiting the region.
Thank you.
