About the Mission

Ambassador’s Greetings

  1. About the Mission
  2. Ambassador’s Greetings
A warm welcome to you from
the Embassy of the Republic
of Korea in Uganda.

I am the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Uganda, Park Sung-soo. In serving as the Korean Ambassador to Uganda, I will do my very utmost to ensure the safety and promote the interests of the Korean residents and visitors in Uganda. I will engage in heartfelt efforts to further foster the bonds of friendship between us.

Uganda’s fabulous climate and rich natural beauty and treasures make Uganda the“Pearl of Africa.” Seeing the great Lake Victoria, permanently snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains, national parks with abundant wild life, anyone can clearly understand why Uganda is described as one beautiful garden from end to end.

Established in 1963, the year after Uganda attained its independence, the Korean Embassy in Uganda has a meaningful legacy – it has a particularly deep history amongst the Korean missions in Africa. It was once closed in 1994, but reopened in 2011. For the last ten years, Korea and Uganda have enjoyed thriving exchanges including three summits. We have expanded the horizons of our collaboration, with our interaction spanning not only the field of ODA but the cultural and economic realms.

Uganda is one of Korea’s priority partners in ODA cooperation. Korean governmental agencies such as KOICA, KOPIA and KOFIH have established their respective offices in Uganda and are implementing various ODA projects, while tens of Korean NGOs conduct projects. Providing humanitarian assistance, the Korean government contributes to the refugee relief activities of the 3rd largest refugee hosting country. And in such ways as providing disease prevention supplies and test kits we have forged a solidarity, working together in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is a source of real happiness to me that Korean culture is becoming more and more popular among Ugandan people. An increasing number of young Ugandans are interested in Korean culture and loving such elements as K-Pop and dramas. Year by year, more and more Ugandans enjoy attending K-Pop festivals and taking part in Korean speaking contests and Taekwondo contests.

Uganda is now recognized by Korea as a partner to work together with in the economic field on the road ahead. It has dynamism and an energy with its young population. On top of this, with rich arable land and bountiful oil resources, the potential of Uganda is indeed great. The two countries are set to strengthen their sense of partnership and win-win joint endeavours not only through imports of coffee and fruits, but also in the construction of roads and infrastructure.

My Embassy and I will engage in devoted work to promote thriving links between the Republic of Korea and the Republic of Uganda. We will seek to nourish them in tangible ways and always take real care to facilitate the work and lives of the Korean community in Uganda. I would always love to hear what you think and welcome any useful suggestions. Your encouragement is invaluable to us.
