Today (Mar 18), the Uniting for Consensus (UfC) group presented its model for Security Council reform at the Intergovernmental negotiations (IGN).
UfC suggests expanding only the non-permanent, elected members of the Security Council based on the principle of equitable geographical distribution.
Ambassador Joonkook Hwang explained the strengths of the UfC model at the closed interactive session.
UfC’s flexible yet principled model can make the Security Council more democratic and adaptable to constantly-evolving geopolitical realities.
