Important Common Information

  • If previously had Korean nationality: Submit proof of renunciation (Basic Certificate or Confirmation Letter).

  • If parents had Korean nationality, submit proof that the applicant was born after the parents acquired U.S. citizenship (e.g., Parent’s Citizenship Certificate, Applicant’s Birth Certificate).



1. Student (D-2)


Eligibility: For students admitted to a Korean university.

  • If staying less than 90 days and not having Certificate of Admission, you can apply for C-3-1 Short-Term General Visa instead of D-2

② Certificate of Admission (Issued by the dean/president of the university that was certified by Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Education)

Additional Documents for Exchange Students:

  • Recommendation Letter from the Dean of the U.S. University

  • Transcript from the current university

  • Invitation letter from the Korean university

    (University enrollment certificate or graduation certificate)

  • Proof of Financial Ability
    (Bank statement with a balance of at least $8,000 USD from the past month)




2. General Trainee (D-4)


Eligibility: For language trainees at language centers of educational institutions or secondary institutions (high school or below).

4. Dependent Family (F-3)


Eligibility: For spouses or unmarried minor children (under age 19) accompanying a student visa holder or high-skilled worker.

5. Marriage Migrant (F-6)


Eligibility: For spouses of Korean citizens or those raising a child born between a Korean citizen and a foreign national.

6. Foreign Government Official (A-2)


Eligibility: For civil/public servants employed by a foreign government or international organization on an official mission.

7. International Agreement (A-3)


Eligibility: For people or immediate family members under SOFA (A-3-3) or Fulbright (A-3-99) agreements.
