Notice ※ Notice of Exemption of K-ETA Temporary Period

DATE
2025-12-29

As part of its measures to support the revitalization of the tourism industry, the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Korea has decided to extend by one additional year the temporary exemption from the Korea Electronic Travel Authorization (K-ETA) for nationals of certain countries. The exemption will therefore remain in effect until December 31, 2026.

  • Extended K-ETA Temporary Exemption Period: January 1, 2026 (Thu) – December 31, 2026 (Thu) (KST)

The extension applies to all countries currently covered under the K-ETA temporary exemption (including the United States). Nationals of eligible countries can confirm their exemption status when selecting their nationality during the K-ETA application process, at which time a pop-up message stating “K-ETA Exempt” will appear.

However, even nationals of K-ETA-exempt countries may voluntarily apply for K-ETA if they wish to receive benefits associated with holding K-ETA approval, such as exemption from submitting a separate arrival card. In such cases, the K-ETA application fee will apply.

※ Previously issued K-ETA approvals remain valid until their stated expiration dates. Fees paid for already issued K-ETA approvals are non-refundable.
