Consul & Head of Consulate's Greeting

  1. About the Mission
  2. Consul & Head of Consulate's Greeting

Welcome and thank you for visiting the Consulate of the Republic of Korea in Hagatna website.

The Consulate came to existence for the first time on February 8, 1970, and has jurisdiction over both Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI).

Guam and the CNMI are situated in the Micronesian region of the Western Pacific Ocean. With a population of approximately 170,000 and an area of 544㎢, Guam is often dubbed as “Where America’s Day Begins.” Guam is now an unincorporated territory of the United States, which is self-governed, but under the assistance of the U.S. Federal government.

The CNMI consists of 14 islands including Saipan, Tinian, and Rota and has a total area of 464㎢. Its population is nearly 53,000. Prior to 2009, the CNMI had a separate immigration system in political union with the United States. However, as of November 28, 2009, immigration has been shifted to the U.S. Federal jurisdiction.

Guam and the CNMI remain a favorite travel destination among many Koreans owing to the tropical ambiance known for pristine beaches, warm weather, and friendly people. The number of Korean tourists hit a record high to over 1 million in 2017-2019.

Our Consulate has strived to promote economic and cultural exchanges with the local government as well as provide the Korean residents and visitors with consular services. We hope that the website of the Consulate serves as significant window of diverse and valuable information.

If you have any questions or need any help, please reach us at our office!

Thank you!
