Welcome to the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Sydney

The Consulate-General of the Republic of Korea in Sydney was established in 1953, prior to the establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and Australia. The Consulate-General has acted as a bridge between the two nations, laying the foundation from Korea and Australia’s strong ties. Currently, the Consulate-General’s jurisdiction includes New South Wales, Queensland, and Northern Territory - nearly half of Australia’s total area.

Many major Korean companies such as POSCO, Hyundai Rotem, Samsung, LG, Hyundai Motor, and Kia Motor are active within the Consulate-General’s jurisdiction. Over 120,000 Korean expatriates also live in the region, leading to vibrant interpersonal exchanges. These economic and personal connections have significantly deepened Korea and Australia’s close relationship. In 2021, on the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties, Korea and Australia’s relationship was upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Multifaceted exchanges have thus helped to advance bilateral co-operation in a variety of areas.

The Consulate-General of the Republic of Korea in Sydney will continuously strive to deepen economic and interpersonal ties, especially through active communication with the local Korean community. The protection of overseas nationals remain our foremost priority, and we will continue to provide swift consular services. Furthermore, we will work to increase opportunities for cultural exchanges, to promote mutual understanding between the people of Korea and Australia.
