  2. Ambassador’s Greetings
대사님

Welcome to the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Cameroon. With residence in Yaounde, the capital of the Republic of Cameroon, the Embassy also covers the Republic of Chad and the Central African Republic.

With a territory that is 2.2 times the size of the Korean peninsula, and more than 250 tribes and local languages, Cameroon displays a wide range of landscapes from the northern savannah to the southern rainforest. This country is known as Africa in Miniature. In addition, Cameroon has various natural resources such as oil, natural gas, iron ore, diamonds, bauxite, and gold, and is Korea’s one of the major partners in energy cooperation.

Since establishing diplomatic ties in 1961, just after Cameroon attained independence, Korea and Cameroon have a long history of cooperation. Especially, the bilateral relations were upgraded in every manner through the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations last year. First of all, despite the COVID-19 situation, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs visited Cameroon and the 4th High-Level Policy Consultations was held on this occasion. The platform for bilateral economic and energy cooperation, the Korea-Cameroon Economic·Energy Cooperation Forum reached a milestone of being held 10 year straight. Along with various projects of development cooperation continuing along, cultural exchanges between the two countries continued on vibrantly. Last July, the Cameroon government decided to open an embassy of Cameroon in Korea, and it is expected that the bilateral exchange and cooperation between the two countries will be further vitalized after its establishment.

On the basis of such success, Korea as one of the principal partners of Cameroon will endeavor to reinforce the mutually beneficial bilateral relationship and to contribute to Cameroon’s 「Vision 2035」(with the main objective to make Cameroon an emerging economy by 2035).

In the midst of the continuing COVID-19 situation, Korean citizens residing in the Republic of Cameroon, the Republic of Chad, and the Central African Republic are working in different sectors such as commerce and volunteer activities, contributing enormously to the development of bilateral relations. The Embassy expresses its deep appreciation to all the Koreans who are doing a great job in their respective domains despite difficult conditions.

The Embassy will do its best not only to ensure the protection of rights and interests of all Koreans, on the basis of solid relations with those countries.

Thank you.
