About the Mission

Ambassador’s Greetings

  1. About the Mission
  2. Ambassador’s Greetings
Welcome to the homepage of the    Embassy of the Republic of Korea    to the Republic of Kenya

The Republic of Korea established diplomatic relations with Kenya in 1964 with its Embassy being the first mission in sub-Saharan Africa. Given Kenya’s significant potential for development, natural endowment, and position as a gateway and logistical hub into East Africa, the country is strategically important in terms of Korea’s diplomacy towards Africa.

While having continued to strengthen our relationship since diplomatic relations were established nearly 60 years ago, Kenya has consistently supported Korea and become an invaluable partner in the international community. The two countries have established future-oriented relations in various areas: high-level diplomatic visits, including presidents, prime ministers, and speakers of the National Assembly; signing trade and investment agreements to promote economic partnership; and opening the Department of Korean Studies at the University of Nairobi. Collaboration between Korea and Kenya will expand progressively into various areas such as development cooperation, science and technology, ICT, climate change, health care, new growth industries and various culture avenues.

While the Embassy will continue to do our best to protect the safety and serve the interests of our nationals residing in Kenya, we will try to further develop bilateral relations based on reciprocity, actively promoting Korean companies’ entry into Kenya, and transferring Korea’s development experience and knowledge to Kenya.

The Embassy is concurrently accredited to Somalia. Our website contains information on both countries. I hope the information covered in this site will be of use to you.

I appreciate your interest and support.

Thank you.

Ambassador Sung-jun Yeo
