Luxembourg is a small yet strong and charming country. Although it has a small population and land area, it is a powerful nation located at the heart of Western Europe, having often recorded the highest GDP per capita in the world. The country is a constitutional monarchy led by the Grand Duke and offers a unique opportunity to experience European sentiment and history through its old towns and fortresses, which are designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Bordering Belgium, France, and Germany, Luxembourg has placed great importance on international cooperation. It was an early member of the United Nations (UN), the European Union (EU), the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the Benelux Union, and the Schengen Agreement. The country has three official languages — Luxembourgish, French, and German — making it a culturally diverse and international hub.
The Republic of Korea and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg share a deep historical bond. During the Korean War, Luxembourg deployed 85 soldiers who dedicated themselves to defending South Korea’s freedom and peace. In recent years, high-level exchanges, trade, and investment between the two countries have been on the rise. The growing popularity of the Korean Wave (Hallyu) has also increased interest in South Korea. The Working Holiday Agreement signed in 2024 is expected to enhance exchange opportunities for young people from both nations.
Our two countries have been connected in the past, present, and future. With the establishment of the first resident embassy in 2024, we have laid the foundation for even closer cooperation. Our embassy will continue to expand collaboration in various fields, including politics, economy, technologies, and culture. We will also remain committed to protecting the rights and safety of overseas Koreans. We look forward to engaging with all those who care about South Korea and Luxembourg through our website and appreciate your continued interest and support.
Thank you.
