Since the establishment of diplomatic ties in February 1980, the relationship between the Republic of Korea and Nigeria has developed remarkably over the past almost four decades. The Republic of Korea has uniquely developed from one of the poorest countries in the world to one of the most economically advanced countries, becoming the world's 11th largest economy in just 60 years of its foundation. On the other hand, Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa, with a population of approximately 200 million. The country is richly blessed with abundance of natural resources, emerging as one of the fastest growing and vibrant economy in the world.
As the economic relations between the two countries is of complementary nature to each other, the trade volume increased sharply up to one point five(1.5) billion US Dollars in 2019. Our main import item is crude oil and natural gas, while we export industrial products and textile products.
Together with this trade development, exchanges of visits between the peoples of the two countries have constantly increased as well. Annually, more than 4,000 Nigerians visit Korea and similar number of Koreans visit Nigeria as well, and it is also expected that these trends of relationship development will continue.
Lagos office of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea has taken note of the recent developments and posted general information about Korea including visa application process on this website. We hope the website will be helpful in promoting mutual understanding between Korea and Nigeria.
Thank you.
