Overseas Korean (F-4) Visa

Eligible Applicants for an Overseas Korean (F-4) Visa

  • You used to be a Korean national, but you lost your citizenship after acquiring a foreign nationality.

  • Either of your direct ancestors was a Korean national and acquired a foreign nationality.

1. General Required Documents

  • Visa Application Form (5 pages, printed and completed)

  • Fee $45 for US Citizens (cash or money order, pay to: Korean Consulate General)

  • Passport (more than 6 months valid)

  • Photo (natural color, 2inches x 2inches, taken within 6 months)

  • US Citizenship Certificate (if applicable)

  • Petition for Name Change (if applicable)

  • Basic Certificate (should be reported Korean nationality loss)

  • Original FBI IDHSC (Identity History Summary Checks) and Federal Apostille confirmation by U.S. Department of State Office of Authentications
    * Must be issued within 6 months before the date of visa application
    * Must receive FEDERAL Apostille; state Apostille not accepted.

  • All non-US citizen applicants must provide the Criminal History Record (notarized and/or Apostilled) issued from their home country in addition to the FBI check.

FBI IDHSC Exemption object:

  • 60 years of age or more

  • Children under 13 years of age

  • Independence patriots and family of the deceased

  • Special contributor

2. Additional required documents for those born of foreign nationality under a parent(s) or grandparent(s) who once held Korean nationality.

Required Documents of the applicant:
  • Birth Certificate


Required Documents of a parent(s) or grandparent(s):
  • Report for Loss of Korean Citizenship (국적상실신고서, if applicable)

  • Copy of US Naturalization Certificate

  • Copy of valid US Passport

  • Copy of Korean Family Registry Personal/Kinship Certificate (기본증명서, 가족관계증명서)

  • Copy of Petition for Name Change (if applicable)
