Investment

  • In 2019, Ireland was Korea's 23rd largest investment destination. The accumulated investment in Ireland recorded about 6.6 billion dollars.

High Level Visits

  • Korea and Ireland have witnessed a number of high-level visits by ranking officials. President Mary McAleese('05), Minister Varadkar('13), Minister Fitzgerald('14), Minister Madigan('19), Minister Creed('19) are just some of the Irish dignitaries who have made a visit to Korea. On the Korean side, Foreign Minister Ban Ki-moon('04), Minister of Knowledge-based Economy Choi Kyoung-hwan('10) have made a visit to Ireland in their official capacity. In 2018, Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon visited Ireland.

Bilateral treaties

  • Agreement on cooperation in economic, industry, science and technology (entered into force April 15th, 1994)
  • Social Security Agreement (entered into force on January 1st, 2009)
  • Agreement on Working Holiday Visa (entered into force on March 9th, 2010)

Korean residents in Ireland

  • As of 2021, there are approximate 1,200 Korean residents in Ireland, but as most of them are short term English students, the numbers and residents themselves tend to change very often.

Korea Ireland Relations on the Global Stage

  • Korea and Ireland have maintained a strong link on the global stage where they have shared vision on many issues. Both countries are committed members of the UN and have contributed to the UN peacekeeping operations. As concurrent members of the OECD Development Assistance Committee, the two countries also seek to contribute to global poverty eradication. (Note: In 2019, Korea's ODA amounted to USD 6,285 million)
